The inaugural TEDxDrogheda event took place in the Droichead Arts Centre on 17th September 2016 and gave eight local and national speakers the opportunity to put a personal spin on the theme of future wealth.
It was the first time the presitgious TED brand was seen in the North East, and following the success of the inaugural event, the organising committee is very hopeful of getting the licence renewed and turning it into an annual event.
Video uploads from the day will be accessible to the general public on Youtube and on the TEDxDrogheda website in a couple of weeks.
The challenge for the speakers was to engage the audience with short thought-provoking, idea-generating, and ultimately, entertaining talks.
“The speakers were just amazing and produced such a diverse and interesting take on the theme”, said Orlaith Carmody, of the organising committee, who was the event MC on the day. “They put in great work beforehand, and really delivered top class talks on the day.”
“We have received fantastic feedback from all the speakers, who have described it as a major ‘bucket list’ achievement for them”, said Anna Kurtisa, Office Manager at the Mill Enterprise Hub, which won the TEDx licence for Drogheda. “And we really appreciate the members of the public who came to the Droichead Theatre to support the event, some of whom want to apply to be speakers next year”.
